Have you notice that every school have a very diversified of students? Students only interact among with those who share the same interests or backgrounds. An example will be high school students. Everyday when students go to school, we notice certain thing in the cafeteria that we just can’t ignore. We see that certain group of students hanging out at a specific area, and another group hang out at different area. It is obliviously a segregation of students that no one really talks about. If we observe closely, four different types of students are easily notice; which are the popular, the brain, the nerd, and the gothic. The groups are categorized on physical appearances, social abilities, and personalities.
The popular usually have trendy physical appearances where they are known to have the best physical figures and social abilities. They have a very high self esteem and very confident in themselves. When sitting in student unions, they usually sit in a large group where everyone knows each other. The popular stereotypically have rich parents that can support them and bad academic performance. An example of this group is known as the Greek; sororities and fraternities. Sororities and fraternities are known to party a lot and get into a lot of trouble. They are also known as the most sociable group with outgoing personalities. The brains are known for their intelligent. Most of them enroll in the honor program. Their physical appearances are very casual and conservative. Stereotypically, they are known to wear glasses and of course it does not necessary mean that all the brains wear glasses. They usually have high goals and academic achievements. Though some might think that the social ability for this group can be a bit boring, they carried on intelligent conversations. When work in group, they show a lot of leadership abilities. They are often seen with the newest laptops around school. Some might think that their personalities can be conceited and annoying, yet they are very active in the school. The students, for example, that are involved in the student government or student association. They show a lot of leadership abilities, social abilities and intelligence. You don’t see them a lot in those so called hang out places because they are likely to be found in the library. The nerds are known to have the thickest glasses, tight pants and intelligent. Sometimes society might be confused this group with the brains because both groups are intelligent and achieve high academic performance. Moreover, both groups are likely to become the future leaders. The nerds are slightly different in their social abilities. The nerds are loners where they spend most of their time experimenting in new technology. This in term had a counter effect in their social abilities because they do not usually interact with another human being. In student union, they are the one who sit alone within their table or with another person with the same interests. Their social ability is rated among the lowest of the four groups, but they have a very high rate of intelligent. An example of a popular nerd is Bill Gates. He is the founder of Microsoft and a billionaire, where he is good at creating computer software and hardware. The last type is known as the gothic. They are known to wear black related accessories and clothing for their physical appearances. They have mood swings due to isolated personalities and background. I see them as very creative creatures because of their passion in writing poems, songs, and just being creative. Without the make-up, society most likely will accept them. Some might think that they have weird and unique personalities because they seldom smile, nor do they easily open up to other people out of their group. As a result, the reputation would rate to be the lowest among the four types. This is a rare group that you will see in cafeteria because they seldom interact with other students. There are various different kinds of students in college. The popular are known to have the best physical image, outgoing personalities, and excellent social skills. The brains are known to have the best intelligence and leadership skills. The nerds are known to be the anti-social group, but they are very intelligent. The gothic are known to have black physical appearances and passive personalities; however, their social abilities are rated low. Of course there are many exceptions that many do not just fall under one category, especially in college. We are no longer in high school; therefore college is a place where everyone grows out of the stage and be able to have positive attitudes that accept each other. In college, there are hardly any types because many falls into different types and some fall into two or three categories. After all, life goes on when students graduate from high school. Some might go to college, and some do not. As a matter of fact, research showed that the brains and the nerds are most likely to be successful in life. Therefore, never underestimate one’s ability just because of their images. |
